THE WAVES

What type of waves are found in the Banyak Islands?

The Banyak Islands are known primarily for quality reef breaks, ranging from playful walls and performance waves to heavy barrels and advanced slab waves.

What skill level is required?

The region offers waves suitable for surfers ranging from novice and intermediate surfers through to advanced and expert surfers.

While complete beginners may find some conditions challenging, many waves offer forgiving sections when the surf is smaller.

What waves are located in the Bay of Plenty?

The primary waves accessible from the resort include:

• Gunter's
• Dindo's
• Lolok Point
• Camelbacks

These waves offer a variety of surfing styles, including playful walls, performance sections, long rides, and hollow barrels.

What waves can be accessed by boat trip?

Additional waves accessible by boat include:

• Treasure Island
• Cobras
• Lizard's Nest

• Shorty's

These waves can provide some of the highest-quality surf in the region when conditions align.

Are the waves crowded?

Crowds vary depending on swell, season, and visiting surf charters. Some days you may surf with a dozen other surfers, while on other days you may find yourself surfing with only a few friends—or completely alone.

What makes the Bay of Plenty unique?

One of the biggest advantages of staying in the Bay of Plenty is the variety of waves available within a relatively small area.

Depending on the swell, wind, and tide, guests can often experience multiple waves.

RULES, SAFETY & EXPECTATIONS

Electricity

The Floating Surf Resort is a fully off-grid facility powered by generators.

Power is available daily, although operating hours may vary depending on guest needs, maintenance requirements, and weather conditions.

Medical Emergencies

Guest safety is our highest priority.

In the event of a medical emergency, the affected guest immediately becomes our primary focus. Staff will coordinate transportation, communication, and emergency response procedures as quickly as conditions allow.

Because we are located in a remote island region, emergency evacuations can take longer than in major tourist destinations.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend that all guests purchase travel insurance that includes surfing, medical treatment, emergency evacuation, and trip interruption coverage.

Mosquitoes

Yes, there are mosquitoes in the region.

This is a tropical region of Indonesia, and mosquitoes can be present, particularly around sunrise and sunset. We recommend bringing insect repellent and taking normal precautions.

Malaria

Malaria exists in parts of Indonesia.

Although there have been no known malaria cases originating from the Bay of Plenty area in several years, guests should still take appropriate precautions and consult their physician before traveling if they have concerns.

Dangerous Wildlife

The Banyak Islands are a remote tropical environment where nature plays a significant role in daily life.

Wildlife may include sharks, crocodiles, snakes, insects, and other native species. Encounters are uncommon, but guests should understand that they are visiting a natural environment rather than a controlled resort setting.
